From Guatemala City to San Pedro La Laguna

When arriving at Guatemala airport, the question always arises of how to get around, especially to San Pedro La Laguna Solola on Lake Atitlan. We will give you several options and you can choose the one that suits you best.

1. Private taxi from San Pedro La Laguna: This option may be the safest, as if you choose a taxi from San Pedro, it will take you safely to your destination and exactly to your accommodation, since the town is small and almost everyone knows each other. The price can be between $100 and $150 for a private trip. You can hire one through a travel agency or an acquaintance you have in San Pedro. Or, if you wish, we can help you find a reliable one.

2. A shared minibus: These minibuses are from travel agencies that you can hire, and the price is around $35 to $45 for the trip from the airport to San Pedro La Laguna.

3. Buses: Also called chicken buses, where the fare is $5 to $7, but you have to take them where they park and at 11:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. The place is called 41st Avenue in Zone 8, also known as the bus station that goes to the western part of the country. The buses are called Mendez and San Pedrana. You can also take them at Tikal Futura, a famous building in Guatemala.

If you are going to take it at 41st Avenue or Tikal Futura, you should do the following: take an Uber, preferably outside the airport, and I recommend waiting for it at Tikal Futura and telling the Uber driver to drop you off on the side where you take the bus to San Pedro La Laguna. You will see many people waiting there, and you must be there at the times I indicated above, since after 20 minutes it passes through Tikal Futura.

4. Transferring by Bus and Boat: This is another way to travel by bus, called chicken buses, and can cost between $10 and $30. The first thing you need to do is leave the airport and take an Uber from the airport to Tikal Futura. The second step is to take a bus to Quetzaltenango (Xela) and get off at a place called Los Encuentros, which will probably cost you $6. At Los Encuentros, you should take a bus to Solola. These buses are yellow and will cost you around $2.50. Then you must take a bus from Solola to Panajachel, which will cost you $1.50. Once in Panajachel, you must find the boat dock for San Pedro La Laguna, which will cost you between $5 and $6, and cross the lake to get to San Pedro La Laguna.
